Security

In Sweden there are a number of security functions that are being used.  The security functions consist of secure electronic identification, digital signatures and support for encryption using active cards.  The Swedish Government in early 1998 issued a paper on Digital Signatures.

The Swedish health system have many projects on including electronic smart cards.  The smart card, stores the identity and authentication of each person, has cryptographic functions, and will give access with only one password to all connected systems and will also prevent access by unauthorized individuals. The card will allow the use of digital signatures, encryption and decryption of messages containing confidential information.

Some of the other Projects include providing standards for other providers, a computerized address catalog this would allow the sharing of some of the information with other industry sectors.
