E.D.I. is defined as the transfer of structured data by agreed message standards from computer to computer by electronic means.

In Sweden the secretariat for the Swedish Trade Procedures Council / SWEPRO acts as an awareness center for EDI and UN/EDIFACT matters. SWEPRO is a governmental entity and is responsible for the Swedish participation in the
inter-governmental work on EDI and EDIFACT in eg. UN/ECE and EBES (European Board for EDI Standardisation). There is a broad representation in the council from the private business sector, relevant governmental authorities and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Trade Department.

SWEPRO administers an electronic information system called SEREC (Swedish EDI Reference Center). SEREC is a forum for closed and open conferences and information.

SWEPRO is one of the founder of 'The Swedish EDI Association - EDIS'. In EDIS participate the major EDI users and user groups in Sweden. SWEPRO is represented in the Board of EDIS and EDIS is represented in the SWEPRO. That is to secure the mutual cooperation and coordination in Sweden.
